Professor Barbara Ransby interviewed by DemocracyNow!

“Democracy Now!,” a public media news program, recently interviewed Barbara Ransby, UIC professor of African American studies, gender and women’s studies, and history, on the shooting of Laquan McDonald by a Chicago Police Department officer. Ransby, who is director of the UIC Social Justice Initiative, addresses various topics including the delayed response to the shooting and video by police and city leadership, the lack of crisis intervention training for officers to avoid such incidents, African American communities’ relationships with police departments, and efforts by young social activists calling for justice in Chicago and around the country.  Text and video of the interview are available here.
