Professor Barbara Ransby Elected President of The National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA)

The National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) elected our own Barbara Ransby, Professor of African American Studies, Gender & Women's Studies & History, as President. Dr. Ransby is an historian, writer, and longtime political activist. She also directs the campus-wide Social Justice Initiative at UIC. After learning of the election results, Dr. Ransby said, “I am thrilled to assume the presidency of NWSA at this critical time when feminist scholars and activists are doing such amazing work in the U.S. and trans-nationally. We look to deepen the tradition of engaged scholarship so central to our mission as an organization, and to build bridges to intellectual communities beyond the Academy.” Congrats!
