Zorgie Sanchez is a second year Master's student in the English Studies program with a concentration in Multiethnic literature. She earned her BA in English and a minor in African American Studies with distinction from the University of Illinois at Chicago in May 2016. Prior to her current position in the department, Zorgie worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago for AAST 100, and is continuing on her fourth year as a staff tutor at the UIC Writing Center. She also published her first novella The Poet's Guide to Heartbreak in 2015, which won the UIC Paul Carroll Fiction Writing Award in April 2016. Her research interests include the function of history and the credibility of narrators within slave/neo-slave narratives and the formation of identity within the urban education system.
