The end of reconstruction in America marks a seminal moment of both progress and setbacks for African Americans. This course will survey the history of African Americans with particular attention to the social, intellectual and political changes in the African American experience since 1877. The course offers an interdisciplinary optic on power that will engage the importance of music, religion, race, and representation.
